Databar Expanded code is one of the most popular 2D barcode fonts that can encode fixed amount of data using GS1 standard. Databar code is the composition of one or multiple identifiers. These identifiers are specified by the GS1 organization.
Databar Expanded is exists in two different modes i.e Expanded and Expanded Stacked. Both modes encode the same amount of data. The only difference is that stacked version can be used when the space is not wide enough to fit the barcode. It can be spread across 11 lines. Data that are to be encoded with GS1 DataBar Expanded barcode is consist of application identifiers and data fields that comply with the data standard of the GS1 General Specifications. In general, the fixed length barcodes can be split in maximum 2 lines.
For variable length modes, there are only 3 types of characters that can be encoded. Each of them encoded with different number of bits. Alphanumeric type doesn't contain lowercase letters or spaces. If you wish to encode lowercase letters, it will be encoded using the ISO/IEC 646 type.
Databar expended will always attempt to generate the smallest bitstream as possible that cover your entire data. There are three types of characters that can be encodes are:
