Databar UPCA

Databar UPCA is one of the most popular 2D barcode numeric symbology. UPC-A is also known as Universal Product Code version A. The UPC-A has two versions, one can be augmented with 2 digit supplement and other with 5 digit supplement to the right of the barcode in order to increase the amount of information encoded.

Databar UPCA is most common and well-known barcode symbology. UPC-A is mainly used for marking products which are sold at retail industry. The barcode identifies the manufacturer and specific product so that point of sale cash register systems can automatically look up the price. The numbers encoded in UPC-A bar codes are Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) of GS1 System.

UPC-A barcode consists of scan able strip and no letters, characters or any other kinds of content appear on standard UPC-A barcode. The digits and bars of UPC-A barcode maintain one-to-one correspondence.

The 2D Composite Component that can be liked to UPC-A can be one of the following depending on the amount of supplementary data to be encoded:

• CC-A: it is variant of MicroPDF417 barcode and the smallest of the 2D Composite Components which can encode up to 56 digits.
• CC-B: it is a subset of MicroPDF417 barcode which can encode up to 338 digits. Encoding systems normally automatically select CC-B when the data to be encoded exceeds the capacity of CC-A.
